What is self-care for you?
Self-care means taking care of yourself so that you can be healthy, do your everyday work, care for others, and you can do everything you need to be able to fulfill life on your own terms. It doesn’t have to be complicated — it can be as simple as checking in with yourself daily and asking yourself how you’re doing physically, mentally, and emotionally, then keep making little adjustments every day to meet those needs.
Is self-care part of your daily practices? How do you make it work in your busy schedule?
Self-care is an important part of my everyday life and it has become non-negotiable. I learned that everything can be important, but if we don’t prioritize our health and needs, things slowly become out of alignment. It starts to affect our mental and physical abilities and the people we surround ourselves with. No matter how busy my day is, I learned it's important to create solid intentional time for myself. I like to plan the week ahead, so all my non-negotiable self-care rituals are placed on my calendar. That helps in creating a good flow between business and personal time. It allows me a space where I can disconnect from everything else and fully focus on recharging and filling my cup back up!
What gives your energy boost?
Generally speaking, I realized that if I maintain a good flow of 7-8 hours of sleep, eat clean, move my body regularly, and connect with people I love — I really don’t need any extra energy boosters. I stopped drinking coffee several years ago because I noticed that one cup of coffee gave a cool high energy for a moment, but then very unpleasant drops and anxiety sensations.
So, as much as I loved the coffee ritual I came to the conclusion that it really didn't serve me. These days if I want to be specific, my most preferable energy boosters are hot yoga classes, tennis, intense breathwork sessions, beach walks, and cold plunges. I regularly use them all to keep a good energy balance.
What helps you relax?
In everyday life, the relaxation comes from all those self-care rituals, but I also make sure to spend some time during the year out of hectic Los Angeles where I am based. During the year I truly love to plan trips and travel. During this time I make sure that my work mode is on hold as much as possible, so I can fully soak in the beauty of the world. When I can enjoy different cultures, food, landscapes, and amazing people I feel genuinely alive. Those trips almost always help to create a great feeling of relaxation.
What role does fashion play in your self-care and wellness routine?
I have been living lately with a 'Less is more’ approach and I try to implement that in every area of my life, including fashion and the everyday choices I make. I am also definitely a work in progress in terms of being more and more mindful about implementing sustainable fashion choices in my everyday life, which means investing in sustainable fashion brands. Shop secondhand and vintage, so we not only will extend the life of these garments but also reduce the environmental impact of our wardrobe as a result + a great thing is that you can also find one-of-a-kind pieces that no one else will own.
Your personal tips for having a healthy work-life balance:
If I could say one thing, it would be — to spend some time discovering what you love and enjoy doing in your life. Don’t limit yourself to options, take as much time regularly as you need to rediscover your passions, interests, hobbies, and things that bring you joy. Once you gather your data on that, just start little by little infusing yourself in those activities. There is a high probability that in this way you will find a work/business opportunity that you will continually enjoy and rituals that will help take care of yourself and others!
